Simple past is very simple, it is in the past. Simple present is very simple. Things that you simply do. Present perfect is not that perfect. It is not quite about the present. It is very reluctant to accept the current moment is not the continuation of the previous moment. It is something that shapes many things on its own. It doesn't necessarily describe anything that exists. That's why it's not so perfect. Present progressive has a similar nature. The fact that you can see the similar nature makes it more appropriate for this tense to be the perfect present. It is perfectly happening in the present, at least for the time being. Past progressive is the perfect past. Perfect past is possible while perfect present is not.
